Song Meaning of “Caffeine (Feat. Jun Hyung Yong Of BEAST)” by Yang Yoseob
Caffeine is a power-packed pop bop in which Yang Yoseob reflects on an unhealthy, addicted relationship he’s stuck in. As featured artist Jun Hyung Yong of BEAST clarifies in the chorus, despite all the difficulties and pain associated with the relationship, it’s an addiction he can’t escape from: “Your caffeine-like love that’s stuck in my veins / I can’t escape this dark abyss it’s dragged me into.”
Yoseob is aware of the toll it’s taking, lamenting that he’s been “burnt out and exhausted” on account of the emotions involved with this relationship. It creates an anxious feeling, with the heavy metaphor of needing a “caffeine rush” to feel revitalized yet still having a “bad aftertaste”. Despite all of his misgivings he can’t help but “go to you like a fool”, unable to escape the irresistible attraction of this love even though he knows it’s far too detrimental for him to be in.
Ultimately, the song is about accepting the need to take a step back away from an unhealthy relationship and be honest with oneself about how it’s affecting them.
