Song Meaning of “The Kraken” by Victor Ruiz

The Kraken is a song from Victor Ruiz about the destructive power of our inner demons and how they can take control of our lives if we allow them. It speaks to the struggles we often face on our journey through life and how we can be overwhelmed and consumed by our own negativity.

The song begins with an ominous piano melody, setting the mood for what’s to come as the protagonist is called by a mythical creature, the Kraken, from the deep. The lyrics say “It calls from the depths of the sea, where no man may go”. This suggests that whatever the Kraken is, it beckons from the depths of the person’s soul, a place they’re hesitant to venture into. In fact, in the chorus, the protagonist warns that it’s best not to follow the call, and instead advises that we all “Keep on the path and steer clear”.

The theme of inner demons continues throughout the song as the lyrics talk of escaping darkness and staying “out of the reach of the beast’s claws”. The chorus speaks of how easy it can be to slip into the darkness and the risks that come with it, concluding with the words; “we often cross the lines of what we should know”. The song ends with a warning, that while the Kraken may offer some sort of knowledge, it can also drag us into the depths of our subconscious and it’s best to beware and keep away.
