Song Meaning (Interpretation) of “Wasted Again” by Turbonegro

“Wasted Again” is a song by the Norwegian punk-rock band Turbonegro that looks at the consequences of bad habits and lingering regret after too much partying. The narrator has gotten carried away and they are now left dealing with the aftermath. The opening lyrics “drained of my blood, and wasted again” reference the physical effects of the hangover, as well as the narrator’s feelings of despair and guilt. The song goes on to describe how they can’t seem to break out of their usual pattern of destructive behavior, no matter what they try. Even when they have good intentions, too easily they fall back into old habits, leaving them feeling “wasted again.” It is a cautionary tale about how no matter how hard we try, it’s often not enough to break our own cycle of destructive behavior and the urge to keep going back, and how painful that realization can be.
