Song Meaning of “Awkward – EP Version” by San Cisco
Awkward by San Cisco is about feeling misunderstood and alone in a situation, jaded by the lack of connection. In the song, the protagonist is in an uncomfortable place of unrequited feelings. It seems that they can’t get through to the love interest, no matter what they do. They’re exhausted by the lack of communication and find themselves pushed away by someone they’re trying to get closer to.
The protagonist is left feeling lonely and out of place, struggling to find to right words and rejections. They feel like they are in a limbo without peace of mind, stuck between the good and bad sides of love. The chorus reflects this, as the protagonist sing, “I’m feeling awkward, I’m feeling so awkward/ Everybody look at me, I’m feeling so awkward”.
By the end of the song, the protagonist is at a place of understanding. They finally are able to put their emotions into words and articulate how they feel. But in the end, they still feel isolated and left in the aftermath of it all. In these lines, they make their inner feelings known as they sing, “It’s true, I’m giving up, I’m learning not to love you/This is it, what it comes down to, goodbye/It’s true, I’m giving up, I’m learning not to love you/I’m feeling so awkward now”.
