Song Meaning of “Heading for Trouble” by Parasites

Verse 1:
Trying to keep my head above water,
But I know I’m heading for trouble.
Can’t pretend I don’t know what’s goin’ on,
In the back of my mind I know I’m wrong.

This verse suggests that the narrator is struggling with a difficult situation and knows that whatever they’re doing is wrong. Though they are aware of the consequences, they still can’t seem to turn away from the trouble. They are aware that it will ultimately cause them problems, and yet they can’t stop themselves from heading towards it.

Chorus:
I’m heading for trouble, I’m seeing it all too well.
But I know I have to do it, even though I can tell.
Outta my way, I’m heading for trouble,
I’m trying to get through but can’t un-double.

The chorus implies that the narrator is determined to go through with their perilous mission. Though they are aware of the danger it poses, they keep on pushing forward, determined to see it through no matter the cost. Despite having every warning sign in front of their face, they cannot resist and keep heading for trouble.

Verse 2:
I’m falling in the jaws of danger,
Ready to taste whatever’s on the menu.
