Song Meaning of “Monkey Me” by Mylène Farmer
Mylène Farmer’s song “Monkey Me” is about the internal turmoil that can come when we allow our inner monkeys — our inner critics, our fears and our anxieties — to take over and control our lives. We can be consumed by them and end up in a place of apathy and numbness. The chorus of “Monkey Me” reflects this:

This concept of the monkey-me is further explored in the verses, where Farmer personifies this character and paints a picture of someone who is seemingly stuck in a place of existential emptiness and is unable to break free of the self-imposed chains that hold them back.
