Song Meaning of “Mz. Hyde” by Halestorm

Mz. Hyde is a song by Halestorm about the pull between two sides of a person’s nature – the good and the bad. The lyrics suggest that the individual is empowered by their darker more intense side (“She’s the dark side of me I can’t deny her, Embrace the danger and ride with fires”) and is trying to fight against the good-natured side of themselves (“Mz. Hyde Trumps Dr. Jekyl everytime”). The song reflects the idea that, while we may want to reject our more dark sides, it’s impossible to deny their presence. The song suggests that we need to embrace the danger and intensity within ourselves and let the “monster” of our darker nature be free and express itself. The chorus also alludes to the idea of a duality within oneself – “Mz. Hyde, She’s my dark side, I can’t let her go, She’s my saving grace, and she’s my only hope”. The idea being that, while we may strive to contain our darker sides, there is always the potential for them to be our salvation.
