Paint It Red is a song by Die Pretty that speaks to the idea of trying and failing to escape the darkness and sorrow inside oneself. The lyrics describe the protagonist as somebody in distress, longing for a way out and desperately trying to find the light.
The chorus starts with “Paint it red, / Paint it white and blue,/ I need something to get me through,/ You’re the only one to get me through”. Here, the narrator is begging for a transformation, a way to paint the darkness in their life a different color, one that will give them hope and help them move forward. They look to someone else as the only one that can help them escape the darkness.
