Song Meaning of “Heart of Stone” by Die Pretty
“Heart of Stone” is a song about how one has become so hardened by life’s disappointments that they no longer feel emotions or connections to those around them. Despite the presence of people in their life that they care about, the narrator can’t seem to break out of their shell and let these people in. They feel as if they’ve become so guarded and untrusting that their heart has turned into a stone, no longer capable of feeling the same emotions they once could. As the chorus croons, “My heart of stone won’t let love in for years, I’m too afraid of the pain that I fear”.
The song goes on to lament about how one’s shell is so difficult to break through and how without the ability to trust or let purpose into their life, they’re destined to be alone. Despite how hard it is to break down this wall, the song leaves us with hope with the line, “But you can break, break truth in my heavy heart of stone”. This speaks to how if one is brave enough to face their fears and break down their barriers, they can unlock not only the ability to love again, but their true purpose in life.
