Song Meaning of “Afinal” by Conrado & Aleksandro
Although the lyrics of the Brazilian Reggaeton group Conrado and Aleksandro’s song ‘Afinal’ are in Portuguese, the universally understood feelings of a bittersweet goodbye are present in the message.
The song starts off with the juxtaposition of construction and contemplation of the final days of a romantic relationship. The singer is aware of the need to move on, but there’s a lingering sadness brought on by the knowledge of all the love lost and all the moments that can never be recovered. Even as he acknowledges the end of the relationship, he can’t escape the feeling of love for his now ex-partner.
The chorus brings out the hope of finding love once again, as he longs for the days different days of passion that will come, but at the same time he’s struck by the realization that he may never recover the same kind of love he once had. This tormenting idea of being able to see what he had and not being able to get it back is tought for the singer to process, but he eventually succumbs and moves forward.
As the song reaches its conclusion, there’s a sense of hope that love will come again, as the chorus repeats and indicates that the singer will eventually be able to find happiness, even if he may not find an identical kind of passionate love once more.
