Song Meaning of “The Departed 2.0” by Capture
The Departed 2.0 is a music piece about loss, grief and the feeling of loneliness which follows. The lyrics suggest that despite the times of hardship, there is still a sliver of hope. The song is a reflection on mortality and how it affects not only ourselves but those around us.
The opening lyric “Ghost of a chance, gone in a blink of an eye” is a direct reference to how, in life, there is often no time to prepare for a tragic loss. The sea imagery “The waves, they keep on rolling but I can’t take that emotion” could be a metaphor for our own emotions, and how we are unable to control them completely even though they come in waves.
The chorus “I look up to a sky so blue, underneath the same old sorrow” speaks to the feeling of sadness we feel even when it appears that life should be better. Despite the wellbeing of others, our own pain can be overwhelming to the point of feeling like we can’t continue.
The song ends by saying to “not look back” and to “just keep on running away”. This could suggest a desire to move past the pain we feel or the idea of accepting mortality and pushing forward in spite of our sadness.
The Departed 2.0 is a moving tribute to those we have lost and a way of embracing the pain that comes from their departure.
