Song Meaning of “Songbird” by Aer

Songbird by Aer speaks to the hope of regaining a relationship that’s been pushed to its limits. The narrator longs to save the relationship and looks to the songbird for solace in doing so. The songbird is symbolic of the narrator’s longing for freedom and their need to break away from the cycle of pain and hurt their current relationship has created.

The chorus is a plea for the songbird to come to the narrator’s aid in restoring the relationship. To the narrator, the songbird is a powerful symbol of hope because it brings the narrator hope of being able to fly away from the hurt and pain and restart the relationship before it is too late.

Despite the chorus’ plea, by the end of the song the narrator realizes that the relationship is beyond repair and that the only hope for the relationship is the songbird. By the end of the song the narrator has accepted the fact that the only chance for the relationship to be restored is through the freedom of the songbird, as it is no longer withing their power to save it.

The overall message is that even when the narrator’s relationship has reached its end, there is still hope for something better if the narrator can find it in themselves to break away from the sadness and pain, and accept that freedom comes with a cost.
