Song Meaning of “Hard Branch to Snap” by This Or The Apocalypse

“Hard Branch to Snap” by This or the Apocalypse speaks of the hardships of a relationship, and the struggle to accept that true and unconditional love sometimes can’t conquer everything. It addresses the idea that life has many obstacles and situations that can’t be fixed with love.

The lyrics “We shared a fantasy/Embellished with trust/Buried in vain offerings” reflects how many relationships start out with a sense of trust, built on dreams of what is to come. But this trust is frail and quickly fails, the offerings of love buried in the effort of trying to mend the relationship.

The chorus is an admission of pain and a recognition that the relationship is doomed, no matter how hard they try. “The hardest branch to snap/and I won’t remember how/how simple it was/it’s all but history”. They recognize that the relationship is no longer easy, “the hardest branch to snap”, and try to remember the better times, but find these memories have already passed, they were too late.

The song speaks of a harsh reality, that life can often contain obstacles to love that cannot be conquered, that sometimes you must let go and move on.
